Insulation
Insulation slows the movement of heat. When the right amount is correctly installed, insulation can deliver dramatically improve comfort and lower energy bills. Keeping the heat inside your home not only lowers your energy bills but it also increases the comfort in your home. Call Ecohomes at 208-331-4115 for energy savings and comfort.

Attic Insulation
The image on the left was taken with an infrared camera in the winter. It is clear to see by the red and white areas of the roof that a massive amount of heat is rising into the attic from inside the home. Essentially, the homeowner is paying the utility company to heat their attic. The goal is to have a cold attic in the winter – you want all the warm air to stay in your living space. Even new homes need more insulation because current code of R38 is well below the Dept. Of Energy recommended level of R49 for cost effective insulation. Take advantage of Idaho Power incentives and insulate your attic to Energy Star standards.
Wall Insulation
The results are comfort issues, higher utility bills, and outside noises are easily heard inside the home.
Most people don’t realize that insulation can be added to the walls of their home. Typically, we fill the wall cavities with insulation from the outside of the home. Small pieces of siding are removed, holes are drilled and then the wall cavities are dense-packed with cellulose or fiberglass insulation. When complete, the holes are plugged and the siding re-installed. The blown in cellulose compacts tightly around wires, plumbing, and other penetrations providing an airtight insulating blanket with a slightly elevated R-value approaching R-4 per inch.
Floor Insulation
Floor insulation was not even added to code until the early 1980′s and more than 20% of the heat in your home is lost through the floor! And even when there is floor insulation, current building code is R19 level and Dept of Energy recommends R30 for our climate. Properly installed insulation under the floor of your home can dramatically lower your heating bills and thaw the floors of your home.
